Hi All,
I'm a bit of a Scalextric fan. I got back into it about 10 years ago, just as Scalextric released Digital slot cars... up to 6 cars racing on a two car track, with lane changing, overtaking and PC controlled dummy cars and race management. It's pretty awesome!
I've got a track set up in the loft and have also developed a bit of a slot car collection over the years, which obviously includes some Porsches, so I thought I'd show them off here. Don't get too excited though, there's no 924s!

My first Scalextric set as a kid included two Mini Clubmans and a Martini Porsche 935. I've still got it, but it was, er, 'tastefully modified' when I was about 10:

Here's another Scalextric 935 from the 1970's that I bought a few years ago, which is how the other one looked before my creative use of humbol paints took hold. Needs motor and wheels:

Now on to the good stuff... modern slot cars are really nice looking things, easily the equal of Diecast models in terms of detail, plus you can race them, crash them and see bits ping off. I've just bought two more Porsches, a 959 and a Carrera RS:

These are both from the 90's and were made by a company called SCX, which developed from a Scalextric subsidiary based in Spain, set up during the reign of Franco as a way of getting around import restrictions. The 959 is 4WD. It has a drive shaft going to both the front and rear axle. Doesn't make much difference in performance, but it's nice seeing all 4 wheels spinning as you drift around corners.

This one is by a company called Flyslot. They have a reputation for producing beautiful slot cars that are really badly made and often need work to get them to run well. It was released last year:

That's all for now. I'll add more if there's interest.
Cheers,
Richard

In the process of ditching all mine. Sets have gone but still got some track, a digital Aston that's still in its box having only done about 100 minutes and a Mk1 Escort that's never been out of the box.

Trying to concentrate on Hornby

Used to love Scalextric but could never stop the track warping which really p'd me off. No doubt there's a trick to it.

You're doing it the wrong way around Gary. Trains out, cars in...

In about 2000 Scalextric released a new track system Scalextric 'Sport' track, which looks pretty much the same as the old ('classic') track, but has different connectors. It can be set up and dismantled flat, whereas the older track had to be contorted apart at all sorts of angles. The newer track is a bit less grippy, has a deeper slot, and still has the same electrical connection problems, but is much less liable to bend and warp.

It is possible to soften the old track in hot water and then press it between something heavy to flatten it, but you'll probably then have flat but rusty track.

They've done away with some of the fun bits of track too, the skid chicane and hump backed bridge are the most sorely missed.
