Primarily because it’s wrong. Why should we have to pay good money for something that is, almost right?
Secondly, as the face contact surface is reduced, flex is induced and the bolt will be potentially stressed.

As it comes with holding tie-wraps through the bush and collar I presume the shock can wander around on the bush when fitted?

Not the best picture but, this is what the bottoms of the genuine ones look like. The rubber bushes come up the end/flush with the mounting collar and the metal tube/cylinder that it goes in is longer.
On the Gaz ones the collar is the same size but the bush and cylinder is smaller.

To be honest. I opened the box, looked at them, launched in to a tirade of expletives and walked away. I didn’t even pick them up!!

They might look a bit nicer if the bush housing was the same length as the bolt sleeve (like my Bilsteins) but it's not necessary for it to do its job

In my head it is. It’s been made in its original format for a reason. I’ll draw it later as a picture paints a thousand words!!

As I understand it Mike is concerned that the bush housing is shorter than the bolt mounting sleeve

I agree that a wider housing/bush would spread the load into more of the bolt sleeve but it's the bolt and its sleeve that transmit the forces into the arm (not the housing) which it should do fine if it's torqued correctly. I still say that what Gaz have supplied is well up to the job - they know the loads that go through their products and wouldn't engineer it that way it if it wasn't

The only thing against the new installation I can see is that the rubber bushed eye is free to float about on the sleeve after a bit of use, which it shouldn't. That is assuming the sleeve is one piece single diameter and not split and shouldered, and that the sleeve isn't too long to fit into the top mount.
