I will machine down the shaft to reuse the stock gear knob. Don't like most aftermarket options.

Arrived yesterday. Top shipping from Paul.

Quick feedback in case anyone else buys one or wants to modify a shifter.

My fears of this shifter shaft being too short for the stock knob when Dan first offered this part has come true. The shaft length needed after grinding down its width is 50mm and you need 100mm to support the knob, otherwise the tip goes flaccid in your hand. If you grind down further the knob will be 50mm Lower than stock which is not optimal for hand from steering wheel to shifter. Thankfully there was a threaded hole on the top of the shaft so I put a circa 60mm bolt into it and used a lock nut to hold it securely. Now the knob stays super stiff in your hand. Once I’m happy I may weld a proper piece of ally on the top and remove the bolt.

Second small issue is that the gap between the top and bottom holes are a touch too wide and the top rod to gearbox catches the body slightly in 4th and 5th. Need to drive it and see if it rubs too much or worse rattles on the body but I’m hoping it will magically sort itself out with some spirited use.

Throw is as the .org thread 46% shorter which makes shifting a lot different. So after 10yrs of the old throw may make shifting odd for a while whilst the brain and hand reprogram

Thread on .org via Dans garage...... http://garage.ideola.com/prod-ClutchTransKits.html

I always reckoned the stock shifter could be cut either side of the top hole. Say 10mm one side and 20mm the other. Spin 180deg and then reweld it back together. Voila, a short throw shifter. I would say 30% reduction would be nicer than 46%. Measurements of the two holes are in the thread. So just make them a touch closer or replicate

I like the shifting alot with it, even though i had to go aftermarket knob. Only mod i did was to space it dow with some washers at the front bushing to get more space for the rod against the body.

Just been for a blast. Yep, I like the shifting with it a lot. Having new UJ bushes and angle joint makes the shift real nice. Still need a few miles to get over 10yrs of muscle memory of the old shift. But so far so good. Happy buyer.
