My 924 has a variety of rusty nuts and bolts holding it's number plates on, which make it look even rougher than usual. I've decided they need changing, does anyone know what should be fitted? I assume they should lock into the slots on the existing bracket?

I've had a look in the parts book but to no avail.

You can use a speed clip/nut and screw.........however, if you're screw is too long it'll hit the paint

I use regular plastic number plate screw cut down to length and plastic nut behind. No issues with scratching paint.

There are two types of number plate brackets. Early with bends so it keeps the screw away from the body. The later ones are flat. These are the ones still available from Porsche. I bend them so they hold the plate off the body and the screws have more room.

In a perfect world the licence plate should have a bracket behind it, often missing.

Brilliant, thanks chaps. I have those brackets behind both front and rear plates, but the nuts on the back aren't an ideal situation as they have now rusted up and just spin. The plastic fixings sounds like the best idea, I just wondered if there was a specific fixing for the back that locked into the channel on the bracket so that they could be easily undone from the front.

I'll get some plastic ones sorted out for now, thanks again

Also, if you wanted to fit them, these Porsche Classic number plate surrounds were less than £10 each direct from Porsche a couple of years ago:

Good idea, thank you. I'll email Bolton Porsche and see if they're still reasonable!

Careful with pointed screws. My car had the brackets but some egit screwed long screws through the clip and it punctured the rear body metal, so I have four holes instead of two :dope:
