And one last post to bring it full circle. My inner hooligan has gotten the better of me and I have ordered a VW Up GTI as a partner to the more relaxed Merc. I was lucky to have one for a whole afternoon to myself and wrote a short piece about it which you can find here http://www.arthurlea.com/Stories/Up/index.htm

I've ordered a silver one, can't wait!

I look forward to read more about this GTi. My first 'brand' was VW and i will never forget the day i bought a new Mk4 GTi Golf , the very first of its kind registered in Wales at the time ! Too big and too heavy these days the Golfs, really like the Up! and cant wait to read what it is like on the road !

Dare I risk one further post? I had a rush of blood to the head a few months back while browsing in my local Mazda shop, where they had just lopped £3,000 off the price of the little white beauty below, and it was more than I could resist. It's a pre-registered (10miles, so brand new) MX5 ND2 SE+ to give it it's full title, the most spartan version, and it is an utter joy. I have now done 3,000 miles in it so it is fully run in and it hits the 7,500 rpm redline as sweetly as any Honda motorbike. It is probably the last hurrah for the 4 pot, naturally aspirated, light and simple sports car, a worthy successor to my 924.

Hope you are all keeping well out there in 924 land (I still browse from time to time) and delighted to see the work Stephen has obviously put into my old car. Well done mate!

John H
