I gave up at lunchtime today to have the weekend off, I’ve been flat out on it since Wednesday!
I’ve had to fabricate a complete inner sill as although I could get a replacement from Germany, there was a 2 week turnaround which would ruin my timescale.
There were loads of other repairs needed but, the back has been broken now. All the floor sections have been painted on the underside and hundreds of holes drilled the the ‘spot welds’ to be done onto the floor frame.
Back on it on Tuesday morning and hopefully I’ll have the complete floor welded back in, sealed and painted.
The only job left after that is the one of the rear arches needs replacing. I’d got the repair panel for the arch but, when I cut it out, I found the section in front was goosed and a repair section needed that won’t unfortunately be free until Wednesday which, although slowing things down, gives me some chance to slow down a bit - this has almost killed me!
I know this work isn’t Porsche related but, getting back into a bit of fabrication has fired me up to get the S sorted prior to paint. I think I’ll drop the wings off, etc and gave a good poke around and see what’s lurking there!

I had a couple of days off over the weekend but was back on with the van this morning. All the floor panels are now tacked in place and repair sections for the floor leading edge.
Tomorrow iced got to make up the rear edge section of the floor and then prep to replace the rear arch. Unfortunately as I cut the arch out, I found the section in front was solid filler so, I’ve had to order a repair panel which should be here tomorrow afternoon.
Once that’s done, there just loads of welding up to finish off!
Need to get it all done and cleared up as the 928 arrives on Sunday morning so need everything clean and tidy to get her stashed away.
I’m quite excited about her arrival!

Yes. This wasn’t supposed to turn into such a major job as it has!
The floor is now fully in and welded and I just need to fit the rear wheel arch and it’s pretty much done with regards to welding but, I still need to put together the interior.
Hopefully all the welding will be finished today so that will be the end of the ‘dirty phase’?

Which works out quite nicely as the 928 is being picked up In Bolton today and will be delivered to me tomorrow morning - exciting stuff!

The 928 will have to go to the back of the unit for a while until the van is completed and I’ve done the rear suspension on Scruffy and then, I can have a play with the 928!

Well the 928 arrived safely and it’s better than expected.
The interior is lovely and damage free and apart from the rear wings needing a repaint it’s more than presentable. The battery was dead but when the jump pack was put on she fired up first flick of the switch and sounded glorious!
Although everything needs doing due to age, it does appear to have been a well cared for car with lists of service history and bills.
Ironically, the last job before being put into storage was a cambelt service, it will be one of the first jobs before she goes back on the road.
All the handbooks are present and it even has the original blue leather steering wheel which needs repairing but, at least I don’t have to try and source one!
Still unsure on the alloys, they look better in the fleet than I thought they would but, I think I’d still prefer an original set?

Nice car and nice interior, but that steering wheel does not match at all. You need its original wheel.

I’ve been flat out but, I did manage to get the van ready for camping last weekend although most of it was a temporary fix and it needs finishing off properly. I finished at 20.30 the evening before we went and all I wanted to do all weekend was sleep as I was shattered but, the little one loved it!

As ever, the budget spiralled out of control with the foam and material coming in at just under £400 before I get anything made. I wouldn’t do it again but, at least the van is solid now and with regards to the Vatcan, I found it very effective.

Another couple of weeks doing a few little jobs here and there should see most of the van finished then, the bodywork needs sorting as she looks an absolute nail!!
