Hi all,

It’s with regret that I’ve had to come to the conclusion that I’m simply not making progress on this project at the rate that I need to, what with other household and mechanical projects I have on the go. I need the garage space back, so I’m looking to sell on the car for someone else to finish and get the back on the road. (Click any of the thumbnails below for bigger pictures)

You can read the story behind the project in my thread here : https://porsche924.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 24&t=25739

In short, the original engine failed (seized bottom end) and I bought a donor engine from Woolies Workshop to do the transplant. I’ve got a long way through building a new engine with a ported head, Newman cam, Piper vernier, totally refurbished fuel system etc. I’m selling the whole lot as a project including the original engine (still in the car) and all of the new engine and parts that I’ve refurbished and accumulated.

This is not your normal non-runner with a boot full of random bits which may or may not belong to the car. This is a really solid base, with everything needed to build a really cracking engine and hence a really great car once finished.

Please have a read on for details of everything that’s included. I’ve done my best to describe and photograph all of the major components but please do ask any questions.

Car
1983 n/a in White. 97,227 miles. Non sunroof shell in really solid condition. Interior is Pascha. Dash is the usual cracked offering that we’re all familiar with for these cars.

Small amount of rust needing attention at rear where the hatch latch is. Paintwork will need some attention to look it’s best. I’ve tried to show the condition the best I can in the following photos.

Running Gear
Recently I completely refurbished the front suspension with new dampers, bushes, discs and pads. All metal parts were blasted and powder coated or painted. I replaced the rear dampers at the same time too.

The discs and pads were replaced at the front and the car has only done a couple of thousand miles, if that, since all that work was done. I have a set of rear shoes which I’ve not fitted but are included.

Engine Block
Donor block from Wooly which is in excellent condition. The cylinder cross hatching is still visible in the bores and the engineer who did the cylinder head work said that the bearings look in great shape. Block has been cleaned and degreased, ready for painting.

The donor flywheel has been skimmed.

Cylinder Head

The head has been boiled and skimmed by a local specialist. They have performed a light porting job on the inlet and exhaust tracts and have carried out a 3 angle valve seat job. In addition the head has been fitted with a Newman cam and Piper vernier pulley. The clearances have been set as per the Newman data sheet. The head has also been painted with Alumablast and looks excellent.

Included are a full set of gaskets for the top and bottom of the engine (including all oil seals, head gasket etc). Also included brand new belts, tensioner, thermostat, head studs and water pump.

Fuel System
Refurbished WUR and Fuel distributor at KMI injection so these are as new and should ensure a really well running engine.

Refurbished fuel lines. Brand new injectors. Brand new injector seals and plastic seats

Fuel distributor body cleaned and painted

Wheels and Tyres
Fully refurbished by Lepsons. Completely unmarked.

Continental tyres with only a couple of thousand miles use

Other Stuff
All of the other parts that I’ve stripped of the car are included - ie all the brackets, fixings and hoses. I took pictures of all the parts as they came off the car which should help with identifying the correct bolts for the various components during re-assembly. The only thing I know to be missing is the crankcase breather hose, as this disintegrated during disassembly.

There are duplicates of a few things like the starter motor, sump, bell housing, engine mounts, exhaust manifold etc. These are all included so you can pick the best ones to use and either sell the others or keep as spares.

I’ve probably forgotten lots of stuff so will update this as and when I remember/fall over other parts in the garage. If you have questions about the condition/spec of particular parts I’m happy to take extra photos as needed.

£1850 for the lot. I am based in Coulsdon, Surrey and clearly the car will need trailering away and suitable transport for the engine and other parts.

Cheers
Mark
