This is from the advert I placed. Apologies also for such a long post.

“A proper barn find. This 1978, auto Porsche 924 was locked up for 19 years and then bought by someone 3 years ago who did most of the work and then I bought it a few months ago and finished it off. 36,000 miles and was owned by a well known interior designer who lived in Chelsea.”

This is the story so far and I will be as transparent as I can and hide nothing.
I own a red na and the chap who I get my parts from used to race 924s. I saw this advert and mentioned to him that I wasn’t in a position to buy it and he offered to if I did the mechanics and he did the cosmetics, so that’s what we did.
I now have it in a very presentable state apart from one thing which I’ll come back to.

New/ replaced parts are;

Sunroof seal (sunroof bag included), points, dizzy cap, rotor arm, plugs, WUR, battery (2 years old, replaced by PO), fuel accumulator. Pads and discs are like new, oils changed.

Every single thing works on the car and inside it is in fabulous condition as you can see from the photos- no cracks in the dash board.
It is auto with 36000 genuine miles but no concrete evidence of that apart from the verbal history and condition inside. Any rust has been dealt with and it has had a partial respray- the bodywork in my opinion would get 7 to 8 out of 10. Boot and sunroof don't leak.

The only thing which is currently wrong with it is the hot start problem, cold is fine and hot starting happens eventually.
Things I’ve checked/adjusted include points, timing, co, new WUR, AAV (checked in freezer), injectors(good spray pattern and not leaking, 5th injector tested and sprays when cold, the factory mod for hot start works(gets power and injector works), checked for air leaks with one can of carb cleaner!

I have done everything I can and I feel this problem is beyond me. I also have my red one and to be honest I am spending too much time with the cars and as winter is coming I don’t fancy spending more hours outside chasing this issue.

I did have it up for sale for £10000 before the problem came up but realize that I was perhaps being greedy and unrealistic. As the car now has this issue and it has beaten me I am open to sensible offers to sell WITH the hot start problem- I’m sure the issue is staring me in the face but as I said and have been told by swmbo I am spending too much time outside. I have spent a fair amount of money on it and would be hoping for at least £4500

If you are interested please pm me with an offer- I can answer any questions and will be completely honest. Any other photos, please just ask.
The car will be tax and MOT exempt from next month.

Based in Hertfordshire.

I can certainly vouch for the known history, having first been offered this some 10 years ago by the owners son who wanted to clear the barn for a conversion, and had several conversations with him.

Looks to have been sensibly recommissioned.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. As I said it's not perfect and the hot start is the only thing wrong but I am beaten on this occasion which niggles me somewhat! :violin:

Yes, the car is still for sale, it's been stored over the summer.

Plenty of help here.Likely an air leak/Pressure drop.
