Well done Karl, 1st in the first race! Nice to see a grid full of 924, 944 and 968s.

Wow.... What an amazing day. I arrived at 0730 (the gates opened at 0900). I was advised to speak nicely to the girls on the gate and they might let me in early. A bit of being nice later.... and I was in. I got a chance to do a few photos before anybody else was about and then, after coffee, I went to the porsche stand and booked my place for a free passenger ride in a 718 boxster with one of their professional drivers. It was quite awesome. The ride was on a section of the GP loop. Once on the track Kat (The driver) engaged launch control and we were off. I then had to retrieve my stomach, eyes and brain from behind the seat. The acceleration was like nothing I have ever experienced. It was a very short section of track that we were allowed on and that was because the local residents don't like the noise, so the ride was over in about 30 seconds but it was well worth every one of them.

Afterwards I went to meet Richard B and Karl in the paddock and then spent the rest of the day watching the racing and photographing everything in sight.

I only took about 600 photos, the best of them are below.

Some transaxles: (Richard, I didn't spot yours, where did you hide it?)

I was Steve until in race 2 with about 5 mins to go. Had a great lead and had been pestering two 944s for a good few laps, they are to slow through the corners. Looked at the worry gauges and water temp had gone through the roof. Pulled in and had a conflab with Clive Morrison and we decided to cut it. Got back to the paddock and we found a bolt holding the water pump had come loose and had lost water :x: . We are fairly well certain that I have not cooked it. Proper gutted as I had gone 2 tenths a lap quicker than the first race and no one was going to catch me.
I was only 4 seconds a lap slower than the 968 race cars

Great to meet you Simon, good to see richb and all the other club members.

what a day,highs and lows.

Cheers Karl

Gutted for you Karl, you were really flying in that second race. Not quite as fast as that 919 Evo demonstration (38 sec lap!) but still looked good. At least no engine/car damage to fix.

I'll add my photos shortly...

Changed the water pump and gasket tonite ,both bolts that hold the alternator bracket to the pump had come loose. Checked the in car footage tonite and it does not look good on how long it was at 'quite hot' before I pulled in. Looks like it will be head off,new gasket, skim etc etc. Also changed the alternator tonite as that was giving out some strange voltages yesterday.
