Hi All,
This Saturday would have been the Ace Cafe meet and season opener for 2021. I'm sure we’re all fed up that we can’t get together to mark the start of our 2021 Club events. But all might not be lost…

I’ve been in conversation with Mark Wilsmore, Ace Cafe owner, to see if the 924 OC could do something positive in light of the cancelled event. He said the Ace Cafe is just about managing to survive with take aways, but he is very aware others in the local community are really struggling.
The area around Ace Cafe is not prosperous, it has high levels of poverty and locals are struggling with basics like providing food. The staff and owners of Ace Cafe are working closely with a Local Food Bank called Sulfa, located just around the corner. Locals who would usually come to the Ace Cafe to eat, socialise and check out the cars and bikes are helping by volunteering to be drivers to deliver food from this foodbank to local people who need it.

NOT ACE: The Plan
Stay at home.
For lunch on Saturday make a bacon sarnie, egg roll or a full fry up of your choice. Have a cup of tea to wash it down too.

Get a photo of yourself eating your lunch with, in or on your 924
Post the photo on this thread to let us all know you’ve had a NOT ACE nosh up

Donate the money you would have spent at the Ace Cafe on lunch along with the petrol money you saved by not going to Sulfa, their local Food Bank.
Donate here:
https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/6643#!/DonationDetails#%2FDonationDetails

We’ll aim to share photos on Facebook, Instagram etc, to try to encourage others to make a donation too.
We don’t get to meet, but you get to eat and others get to eat too.

Example NOT ACE Donation
To get to the Ace Cafe I’d have made about 110 mile round trip. At about 32mpg and £5.20 a gallon that’s £18 petrol, plus I’d have easily have spent £7 on some grub so I’m going to donate £25.
Sulfa says £25 would provide a family of 4 with food, toiletries and other essentials for a week

Hopefully this means we can mark the season opener, we all get fed and get to see each other with our cars on this thread, and we can hopefully make a bit of a difference to others who are struggling during the current situation. I don’t need to say that anything and everything you can donate will be hugely appreciated by Sulfa and make a massive difference to people who are really struggling.

We typically manage to attract about 15-20 members to this event. If you had planned to go, or fancied coming along please get involved.
Who’s in?!

Message to 924 Owners Club from Mark Wilsmore, Ace Cafe owner:
“I’m writing to suggest the Ace Cafes charity of choice, a much in demand foodbank located nearby to the Ace, you may be interested to note that at this time of year Sufra, the foodbank close to Ace Cafe London, always sees a spike in demand for their services and, at this particularly difficult and challenging time, with increasing numbers of guests, the opportunity to get a warm meal is looked forward to and welcomed by so many more – so,924 Porsche drivers, have you Got Wheels?, Can You Help?

Message to 924 Owners Club from Fahim Dahya, Sulfa Foodbank Logistics & Facilities Manager
“we are facing unprecedented levels of demand at the moment and are just trying our hardest day by day to make sure we can support everyone that come to our door with food aid and any other needs they may have. Any support your team can provide will be greatly appreciated.”

-------------------

We can all dream!

And if we dream and wish and hope as much as possible and if we all keep our fingers crossed that the current rubbish situation might just be eased by March then this could just happen and we can finally meet up again over a fry up and a car park full of 924s.

In the meantime the venue is booked and this thread is up as a placeholder to let you all know the date.

Steve, after some confusion I finally got to the bottom of this last year by trawling early forum posts and found this:

https://porsche924.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4588&hilit=ace+cafe

So 2010 was the first Ace Cafe meeting, last year was the 10th anniversary.

This coming one will be the 12th meeting.

I've not done this one before and I'm with AlanB and needing to put more miles on my car.

All being well I would like to join a midlands contingent for the drive down if there's a few of us. Fingers crossed on this one
