The Porsche 924 Owners Club

Moved from its traditional date in May, the Bomber Run will always get through!

Please note the new date of 20-21st August as I hope to run this over two days. You can join either day or both.

Friday

Starting near the A1 we will meander our way through the Lincolnshire countryside picking up a few of the outlying Bomber Command bases. Our destination for the day will be the Battle OF Britain Memorial Flight museum. Here we will have a guided tour of the hangar getting within touching distance of the RAF's oldest flight worthy aircraft. With constant maintenance scheduled, it's like a Resto Show for old warbirds!

As the BBMF are likely to be on the show circuit by this time we are VERY likely to see be able to watch them start up and take off from a close distance. Being within a few feet of those mighty Merlin engines is always an experience.



For those interested, I'll book a table to eat at the tiny, but historically important pub called The Bluebell in Tattershall. Built in 1257 it is laced with history ancient and modern.

Anyone wanting to stay over, please contact me and I'll recommend some good local hotels.

Saturday


Most likely starting near the A1 again, we will have a steady drive through the Wolds and onto East Kirby air museum. An old friend of the club's now- we even own part of their Lancaster as a trophy- we will enjoy a picnic lunch together and get to park on the air base. If we're lucky, Just Jane (their soon to be flight worthy Lancaster) or the Mosquito will come out for fast taxi work too.

From there we will drive to the little museum at Metheringham and even get a photo opportunity as you drive down the old runway.

Our trip will end at RAF Woodhall Spa where we will have exclusive access to walk the historic base and take in the eerie atmosphere.

For those interested, I shall try to get us a meal booked at the Petwood hotel, subject to them being able to accomodate us.

I'll be there

I missed this last year because I was in the process of moving to Lincolnshire, so I really don't have any excuses this year — not that I'd want one. It's always a top day out. I'll even be close enough to do the breakfast, if doing breakfast is a thing again by the 14th August.

Fingers crossed that I can make this one!!
